Battleship Movie: Veterans as Actors

by Greta (Hooah Wife) on November 18, 2011

So I am a little excited about the movie Battleship coming out. Well…I am a lot excited. My pal, COL Greg Gadson is making his acting debut (now he has to deal with me calling him Hollywood). They even filmed parts in Baton Rouge and I went over to catch up with Greg and some of the gang to say hello. The cast includes: Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna, Asano Tadanobu and Liam Neeson. The cool thing is, Director Peter Berg was smart enough to use active duty, retired and wounded warriors to be in the movie. Who else better to play these roles? No brainer there! The movie is due to be release in May of 2012.

From their PR:

Filmed with support of the U.S. Navy, Battleship enlisted active duty and retired service members and their families to portray many supporting characters and extras in the film.

Colonel Greg Gadson, a wounded warrior who lost his legs in Baghdad, has his first film role in Battleship as Special Forces Army Officer Mick Canales, a double amputee. Several dozen wounded warriors served as extras during the company’s one-day shoot at San Antonio’s Center for the Intrepid, a rehabilitation facility that treats amputees and burn victims and was specifically built to provide care for our heroes, U.S. servicemen and women who have served in military operations in the Iraq War and in Afghanistan.

Battleship is proud to partner with the USO to launch the REAL HEROES Contest on the official Battleship Facebook page and USO Facebook page.

The REAL HEROES Contest invites Facebook users to honor their friends, family, or other loved ones in the military by sharing their stories. Users can write a story, upload a photo, and share their Real Hero with the Facebook community, as well as be entered for a chance to win a screening of BATTLESHIP in their hometown.
