Well, there were only 50…

Date June 21, 2006

OK all you “Bush lied” a-holes, now that the truth is out, the big secret, the cat out of the bag, the trump card, the golden ticket…go on & give your excuses. This IS what we went to war over – so I don’t want to hear “it is only 50.”

Excuse me for being a bit pissed off, but I am. I am tired of the anti-American/pro-terrorist movement in this country. People so hung up on the Haditha Marines, the rights of those at Club Gitmo & the idea that Cheney wanted this war to benefit his Haliburton shares – crowd.

Now pardon me for saying this, get your head out of your ass, admit you have been wrong, negative, anti-everything & go thank a soldier! Put the yellow ribbon back on your car & remember this war is to secure the future of this nation & the free world!

Santorum was wrong, sorry. Check here http://thinkprogress.org/2006/06/21/santorum-wmd/

The story from the administration for 3 years has been that they were misled by bad intelligence. So , too, our European friends. Bush even joked about it and commissioned people to go find them. They came up with garage sale stuff.

Hardly anything for the US to worry about.

We also have ex-Iraqi generals saying it was all flown to Syria before America invaded, but no one believes him. Do you remember that we captured Dr. Germ , the most importatnt Iraqi person allegedly in charge of WMD? Nothing from her either. Everybody says there were no WMD’s.
Even the CIA and DOD and Cheney and Rumsfeld have admitted intelligence failures on this issue.

But none of that is important now. We need to stay and prevent innocent people from being killed as best we can. We cannot leave Iraq.

Greta, I totally agree with you. But I’m going to play devils advocate for a second. Here goes, “it was pre-1992 weapons that were all degraded”. I have to thank Alan Colmes for that.

Now to counter myself. Doesn’t matter. Saddam said he disposed of all his weapons. Turns out he didn’t. I talked about sarin, mustard and vx gas being found in Iraq last year.

I also found a PDF from the U.N. that talked about Iraq moving weapons before, during and after the invasion in ’03. Some radioactive material was found in the Netherlands. I was going to post on it but I couldn’t make heads or tails out of it.

    Greta,

Your tone in this post is as bad as Chris often gets. Stop drinking antifreeze!

I read the news and listen to NPR. Bush was making many comments today. Amazing that the major media, and Reuters, AND BUSH are all trying to hide this story from me.

But you have your CNS. They tell you your truth. The one you want to hear.

I thank our troops for risking their lives (and giving up normal lives) to try to protect this country. The dangerous chimp in the White House lied, deliberately, and has the blood of over 2,500 brave troops on his hands.

You support him vehemently. “Out, damned spot!”

To your other point about the anti-American vitriol and pro-terrorist diatribes that you run into: it’s all foofaraw.
There are extremists who induce visceral reactions in us. They are on both sides of the political aisle.
People who are centrists by nature are being manipulated into being RIGHT or LEFT by false statements like “You’re either for us or against us”. Perhaps I am for something you do and against others; but this polarization of positions does not allow me to hold any opinion other than yours or the enemies. The people I know are not that simple minded.

The invectives are wearing upon me. False charges and false counter charges are being made everyday. It is the battle for the hearts and minds of Americans.I sure hope the good guys win, which leaves out both the Right and the Left on many issues.

Greta, I know Hannity and Colmes haven’t, but have you even heard of the Dufler report?

While a small number of old, abandoned chemical munitions have been discovered, ISG judges that Iraq unilaterally destroyed its undeclared chemical weapons stockpile in 1991. There are no credible indications
that Baghdad resumed production of chemical munitions thereafter, a policy ISG attributes to Baghdad’s desire to see sanctions lifted, or rendered ineffectual, or its fear of force against it should WMD be discovered.

I have seen others delete their mistakes and claim to not know what I’m talking about when I call them on it. And I’ve noted when those who call for blood and war keep themselves on the Toblerone deferment plan. Greta in those cases says ‘ENOUGH!’

From the above comment it appears that when she is the one who is mistaken, a change of topics is called for, and pointing out her mistake is ‘backpeddling.’ I hope that’s not the case.

Well, I’m one of the assholes who thinks the president lied. That, or he’s a puppet who was manipulated by his scary administrated to lie to us. I’m also carrying a soldier’s baby and will marry him in november. I thank him daily for his sacrifices, which in many ways are also my own sacrifices.

We went to this war on false pretenses. I am not pro-terrorist. I am pro-effective action against terrorism which this war is most definitely not. The best point I can come up with to support the theory that this war is preventing terrorism in the US (which was given to me by my Republican betrothed) is that we are using Iraq to draw the terrorists to us there rather than our own soil. Makes us pretty shitty, but at least it’s not our own children being blown to bits in the streets, right?

Haditha is an incredibly serious issue and should be taken gravely by citizens and our armed forces alike. Yes, this is war. Yes, bad things happen in war. Innocent people have been slain in every war throughout history. But in this day and age, when image is so important, when every last thing they do over there can be spread worldwide in an instant, they have to be more careful than ever to stay their hands. I understand war rage, I understand what happened to them, I understand what happened to innocents. I hold those soldiers responsible for their actions. As I said before, I support our military in lifestyle as much as in words. But that doesn’t mean they do no wrong, it doesn’t mean that abhorrent behavior is excusable because of the sacrifices they make for me. Haditha needs to be examined. Haditha is outrageous, and I will not apologize for my concern nor turn in my patriot card because i believe so.

What we’re doing in Guantanamo is illegal and disgusting. It’s a gross violation of our own beliefs about freedom and human rights. And no, I’m not giving up my patriot card because I believe this, either.

And in my personal opinion, Cheney is a greedy mf who is lining the pockets of his oil buddies (and his own) at every opportunity. Well, at least when he’s not shooting them in the face. Nope, still clenching my card.

Not only is it my right to criticize the government and the administration, it is my duty and responsibility to do so in a democratic society. As voters it is our responsibility to hold our leadership to our own laws, to make sure they do not lead our country to become something we don’t want to be and to hold them accountable for their actions. This goes for Leftists, Rightists and everyone in between. If we blindly follow them once they are in office we are no better than those living in a dictatorship.

Flag waving and ribbon wearing are not the marks of a true patriot. A true patriot can look at his/her country objectively and point out the parts that need some work. Saying “we’re wrong on this one” does not mean we don’t support our country, rather, it means that we love it enough to keep it in check.

So please don’t accuse me again of being anti-American and pro-terrorist. And when I see your article come from a credible news source, I’ll address the issues it raised.

BH – I will not apologize or admit a mistake, when none has been made. I was feeling very passionate about the issue at the moment I wrote that & so it is reflective in my writing. BTW – changing topics is how I keep this particular blog alive!

    > I will not [...] admit a mistake, when none has been made.

But you do seem to be saying that the WMD threat which justified the invasion was real. And even Great Leader admits it wasn’t. So that’s a mistake in your post.

    > I was feeling very passionate…

    Understood.

    >…changing topics is how I keep this particular blog alive!

Within the comment thread though I think it is fair to stay on topic.

BTW, Sis B has such an excellent comment here that I nominate her, too.

    So Meg,

Why didn’t Saddam prove he had destroyed the stuff and avoid a war?

BTW Kerry said in 2002 that Saddam was a WMD danger. Lucky for me I didn’t vote for him.

  14. Meg said:

    M. Simon,

Why didn’t Saddam prove he had destroyed the stuff and avoid a war?

    That’s a great question. Maybe he’s a lunatic?

You are right about Kerry. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with him. But hey! This election should have been about sending a strong message to this administration and all future ones: DON’T TAKE RIDICULOUS RISKS WITH OUR MONEY AND OUR ARMY.

  15. Professor Smartass said:

If Saddam didn’t use this stuff when we attacked him and invaded his country, the time when he would be most tempted to use WMD, what would be the chances of him using them against us when we WEREN’T invading?

We destroyed 80% of his military for invading Kuwait. Do you think he would forget that and lob some mustard gas or even a nuke at us, knowing that our retaliation would have been certain death for him, and in the case of a nuke, the annihilation of everyone in his country?

Is there any weapon too old and broken to not scare republicans?

Do you piss yourselves when archeologists find Indian arrowheads, thinking you might be attacked and scalped by a war party?

Dare to think and ask questions, even of people you agree with.

    Good points professor.
