HOOAH Roundup
October 29, 2007
Many thanks again, to Greta for the invite to post here, and I appreciated the warm welcome she posted.
I haven’t really decided yet if this is going to be a feature that’s posted on the same day every week? but Greta also came up with the name….”HOOAH Roundup”…and she provided the spark I needed to come up with the initial post for this feature, with her post earlier today about the Valour IT fundraising competition.
While I’ve got to join Greta in supporting the Army team (there’s an Army MP in our family, I’m in a heap ‘o trouble if I Don’t support Army, lol) I think it’s only fair to point out that there Are other branches in the Armed Forces participating in this.
For a listing of some of the blogs of those ‘other’ branches, you can check out the main fundraising sign- up page at Soldiers Angels
Click here: Soldiers’ Angels – Veterans Day Fundraiser
(which reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of all the ‘big dogs’ in the Milblogging world.)
Chaotic Synaptic Activity is going all out for the Navy/Coast Guard team for this competition, and has even come up with a Bulletin Board where competitors can exchange information (read ‘take potshots at other teams/bloggers’:)
In the comments on that post, Rusty Bill points out a page where you can grab buttons and banners supporting this year’s fundraiser
http://home.grandecom.net/~cvproj/valour-it/valour-it.htm
Mudville Gazette, of course heading the Air Force Team in the competition, makes a mention in their post that MoveOn.org was signed up for the Navy team.
I found out from the comment section in this post
Click here: Grouchy Old Cripple: Project Valour-IT Fundraiser
where that came from….yep, you guessed it, a ‘troll’. Sheesh, some people…they even pop up for a fundraiser for a worthy cause like this. (and the MoveOn sign up link has since been removed.)
Best potshot I’ve seen thus far was also on the Grouchy Old Cripple post:
” Oh yeah. We’ve lumped the Coast Guard in with Navy this year. I’ve always envied the dudes in the Coast Guard. When their ships sink, they can walk to shore.”
THAT will garner some responses, I’m sure
But, it’s all in the name of fun for a worthy cause.
And if you’d like to hear it straight from the initial inspiration for Valour IT, Chuck Ziegenfuss
Back in May at the Milblog Conference, Sean from Doc in the Box
videoed and posted Chuck’s lunchtime speech. Worth a review as the fundraising kicks off.

Well, that’s it for the “HOOAH Roundup” for the first time!
Please help spread the word about the Valour IT fundraiser (and,Go,Army! Right now they’re in the lead….which is as it should be!!

I was there for Chuck’s lunchtime speech and it was very moving. He is a powerful advocate for wounded warriors. Great post, Kathi! Looking forward to many more.

There’s a new widget for tracking donations for Project Valour IT available here. Donations made through the old widget are still valid, but have to be tallied by hand.
GO ARMY!
