Gmail Problems
January 14, 2008
Is anyone else with a Gmail account having problems getting it to load? Or if it does load it runs really slow? I’m getting kind of tired of getting the page that says it’s taking longer than expected.

not really. as I recall you are on dialup, which would take longer that broadband, but I just tried it and it came up in a second or two, and I don’t see that many graphics, and they should be in cache anyway

I heard a lot of peeps had Gmail problems over the weekend. I was fortunate this time around, but like you it drives me up the wall when it’s down.

That actually started a few ago when Gmail switched over to this new version they’re using. It’s driving me crazy. Before that, not a problem. Everything was fine.

I cannot get Gmail to load even if I sign out and sign back in. This started last week, where gmail was just a blank page, but I was able to get around this by signing out and then signing back in. Now nothing works and I cannot get to my gmail account. Any suggestions? I Google working on this problem?

Same problems here since the weekend. It starts with oops, an error has occurred message at the top of the screen with a retry countdown when I would try to send an e-mail. Now after I login, I get nothing but a blank screen that says it is LOADING… but nothing shows it just gets stuck there. I use the igoogle as my home page and I have an e-mail notifier on that, but when I click on the inbox I get the same result. If i use the e-mail message preview option, I can view individual messages, but am unable to see my whole inbox on the page, just one message at a time.

bruno, how do you use the older version? When ever I click on it, it’ll go to it but when I leave and log back on it goes back to the newer, slower version.

I’m really tired of the problems with Gmail. For the last few days, I can get a listing of the mail but cannot open any of the individual emails. Do you know if Google is trying to fix this problem?

For the past couple of days I have received the error message “Internet Explorer cannot open gmail. Operation aborted.” On a couple of times during the past two days, it has opened, but mostly I get that message. Has anybody else received a similar message? Any advice on what I can do?

I am experienceing the same frustrating difficulty. Since I cannot access to report, I have no clue what to do!

The only way that I can open my email is to switch to the “older version”. Each time I log in, I have to switch to the older version. It then works very well. With the new version, I keep getting the message “still working”, even two hours later.

has anyone found any solution yet???
P.s: Joyce how do you switch to the older version when the gmail page doenst open. Is there another URL for it?

I guess my problem is different since I can open gmail and get a listing of mail. I just cannot open the individual emails. I wish Google would fix it.

for those who keep getting the operation aborted msg try this..click ‘ok’ and then refresh the page a couple of times (each time clicking ‘ok’ for that aborted msg)…after arnd 5-6 times it comes on….

I am noticing 2 problems with Gmail: #1) recent emails I have received but have not deleted cannot be found a few days later (they are not being archived); #2) the content of every email is being surveilled because I receive promotional ads on the right sidebar relating to the content of every single email I send or receive. For example, if I discuss cooking in an email to someone, then ads for cooks show up in Gmail; if I receive am email about radios, then ads for radios suddenly appear at thr right sidebar in Gmail; if I talk about metabolic bone disease, then medical promos show up. How secure can Gmail really be, if the content of every message is being monitored for consumer purposes?

Spent most of today not being able to get to gmail. I get a blank screen that says “Loading” – I have let it try for as long as 20 minutes with no success. I have also tried closing it and trying again – same result. I have also tried shutting down the browser and trying again – same result. It was also using 90% – 100% CPU.
Does anybody have any ideas?

For the past two weeks I’ve experienced DAILY problems getting into my gmail. I just can’t get in! It is really annoying and the worst is that the problem is not even acknowledged and there is nothing that lets the users know they are at least aware and working on it!!

I,too havent been able to open gmail..these are some things that work:
1)open orkut and then type gmail url in another browser (while orkut is open)
2)login to gmail first and after getting an error msg type igoogle.com url (in the same or another browser). igoogle will have a small window on your gmail mails (if not, then u can add it alongwith other applications you would want on igoogle)

Here’s a helpful site for all gmail problems including one we have been discussing:

I have had a number of probs with gmail since 28 May (when there was a security update, I believe).
I had problems in writing new messages (compose mail) for 5 days – it would more often than not, crash with the message “internet explorer has experienced a problem and needs to close”. Eventually, on 2nd Aug I went onto google troubleshooter pages and reported this “new problem”. By the afternoon it seemed to have been fixed, or had fixed itself.
But later that day there was a new problem, and I couldn’t get into gmail at all – kept getting Google Temp Error message 502, and informing me that their engineers were working on it.
This seemed to be an intermittent fault as I could get in sometimes, and all yesterday – BUT today 4th Aug, I have not been able to access my Email account.
Is anyone else having any probs?? Of course you don’t get any feedback from google!!!
Note I have another Email address using gmail through my own domain/website, and this is working OK.
Confused and fedup …..Den

Problem still not resolved today. But I managed to get into my gmail today by trying a couple of “simple hacks” as in this link:
http://labnol.blogspot.com/2006/08/how-to-fix-gmail-login-problems.html
6. http://www.google.com/ig to see a preview of unread mail
From there click on “my account”, and enter logon details on next screen.
This brought list of products available to me.
Click on Google mail from within my My Products, enter logon details again and I was in.
Not sure why this works, but seems to bipass the normal server.
When I tried to access via the usual browser/server, I again got the 502 message!!!
