Could Cult Oprah bring Obama down?

Date February 19, 2008

And to think, yesterday Hillary was trying to get Obama on plagarizing, this is waaaaay more juicier if you ask me!

I was listening to my pal Jeff Crouere on his local talk show today. He was disgusted with Oprah touting her new philosphy, “New Age Christ” on religion and even called it blasphemy. This is her newest agenda and just in time for a heated political race. Obama and Michelle are probably telling her to simmer it down until after the election. But nope, folks like us on the right may have to bring this up and let it boil! I’m a Jew, so don’t ask me to understand anything beyond the Old Testament. I leave it to my Christian readers to settle the Oprah score for me. I report, you decide kind of thing!
Herescope lists these rules in Oprah’s new cult or you can read the book on-line here:

* “There is no sin. . . “9
* A “slain Christ has no meaning.”10
* “The journey to the cross should be the last ‘useless journey.’”11
* “Do not make the pathetic error of ‘clinging to the old rugged cross.’”12
* “The Name of Jesus Christ as such is but a symbol. . . . It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all the gods to which you pray.”13
* “God is in everything I see.”14
* “The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself.”15
* “The oneness of the Creator and the creation is your wholeness, your sanity and your limitless power.”16
* “The Atonement is the final lesson he [man] need learn, for it teaches him that, never having sinned, he has no need of salvation.”17

My question to you, will the Christians who are supporting Obama find a little unease in their stomachs voting for a man who has a women behind him (or in front of him, depends on how you look at it), who wants to deconstruct Christ and his teachings?

Go look here and here to see what the heck I am talking about a little more.

Weeeee, this is going to be fun!

    Oh, just from the first couple of points I can say that is heresy at best and pantheistic paganism at worst (“best” and “worst” both being pretty much the same, of course)…. If Oprah is indeed “preaching” this, then she is either NOT a Christian and woefully ignorant of Scripture, OR she’s NOT a Christian and willfully leading people astray.

    Just the first point, “There is no sin. . .” is refuted by 1 John 1:8-10:

    If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

    … nevermind the quote from Romans 3:

    “ There is none righteous, no, not one;
    11 There is none who understands;
    There is none who seeks after God.
    12 They have all turned aside;
    They have together become unprofitable;
    There is none who does good, no, not one.”
    13 “ Their throat is an open tomb;
    With their tongues they have practiced deceit”;
    “ The poison of asps is under their lips”;
    14 “ Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”
    15 “ Their feet are swift to shed blood;
    16 Destruction and misery are in their ways;
    17 And the way of peace they have not known.”
    18 “ There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

    And for some reason, your comment box is not letting me move up and down to edit, so I’ll stop here. But that’s a pretty heavy Biblical refutation of that first point…. The other points are equally heretical…

    Heresy indeed!
    But hey, his own cult gives him a pass for his church and “spiritual mentor” so I can’t imagine this would bother them.
    Long copypasta from Rolling Stone (hardly a conservative publication!) about Rev. Wright, the pastor and Obamessiah’s “spiritual mentor”–

    Wright takes the pulpit here one Sunday and solemnly, sonorously declares that he will recite ten essential facts about the United States. “Fact number one: We’ve got more black men in prison than there are in college,” he intones. “Fact number two: Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!” There is thumping applause; Wright has a cadence and power that make Obama sound like John Kerry. Now the reverend begins to preach. “We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns and the training of professional KILLERS. . . . We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God. . . . We conducted radiation experiments on our own people. . . . We care nothing about human life if the ends justify the means!” The crowd whoops and amens as Wright builds to his climax: “And. And. And! GAWD! Has GOT! To be SICK! OF THIS SHIT!”

    This is as openly radical a background as any significant American political figure has ever emerged from, as much Malcolm X as Martin Luther King Jr. Wright is not an incidental figure in Obama’s life, or his politics. The senator “affirmed” his Christian faith in this church; he uses Wright as a “sounding board” to “make sure I’m not losing myself in the hype and hoopla.” Both the title of Obama’s second book, The Audacity of Hope, and the theme for his keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in 2004 come from Wright’s sermons. “If you want to understand where Barack gets his feeling and rhetoric from,” says the Rev. Jim Wallis, a leader of the religious left, “just look at Jeremiah Wright.”

    Can you imagine anyone else belonging to a church with those extreme politics runningg for President and actually getting a pass? Oprah’s got nothing on these wackos. Yeah, he’ll get a pass for her fakey new age “religion.”

    I can’t speak to the nitty-gritty of her religious beliefs as well as Kat, but it looks to me to be the kind of religion that only the extremely wealthy and entitled can indulge in. Its a completely narcissistic belief system that has absolutely nothing to do with the teaching of Christ. Christ taught self-LESSness, not being all about self (the recognition of God is the recognition of yourself).

    Beth has a really good point about Obamessiah’s religion. Its no accident that he surrounds himself with people like that (including his pastor and wife).

    I could be wrong but I don’t see this affecting Obama that much. I don’t presume to know Oprah’s spiritual beliefs but come on this is the woman that brought us Dr. Phil and The Secret. It’s all about entertainment and making money – nothing more.

    and that right there is why she should never be trusted.

  9. Silke said:

    Yes, Chris, that was my point. She can’t be taken seriously.

    tell that to the gazillion sheep that follow her

    I have to agree with Silke, it won’t affect Obama that much. His base support is already wacked out, and lots of mainstream Christian haters anyhow.

    I’ll check to see if I can fix the comments box. Been meaning to do that for awhile.

    No, I disagree. His base support comes from moderates (liberal and conservative). I’m one of them though I haven’t totally made up my mind yet.

    I have to say it’s really sad to see these kinds of attacks against Obama and his supporters. I have no problem with legitimate questions about experience and policy but these broad generalizations that call his supporters crazy and anti-Christian or compare Obama to Hitler (which I have seen already) are really discouraging.

  15. William Teach said:

    Maybe you should spend some time in the left side of the interwebz, and see how they treat the Christian religion. It’s not pretty.

  16. Silke said:

    Why? What’s the point? I have no doubt there are people on both sides of the extreme political spectrum spewing hate. There’s no point in arguing against it. You cannot reason a person out of a position they did not reason themselves into.

    I would rather spend my time engaging in real debate with rational people who value common sense and good judgment over ideology. Anything else is just a waist of time.

  17. William Teach said:

    No, it is not a waste of time, gotta disagree, Silke. One must know the positions of your opponent in order to have debate. I will not use the “know your enemy,” because, for the most part, they aren’t. I also go see what some of the extreme right says. I see what is said on Islamic sites. I see what is said on Jewish. Etc and so on. One must see many, many sides. Doesn’t mean you agree with them. But, you have to know who you are debating and what their positions are in order to effectively debate.

    I do agree that there is little point in arguing against wackjobs of any stripe. There are really far right folks that I do not bother engaging in debate with. But, consider the Truthers. A lot of folks said “ignore them, they are nuts.” True, but, one must still engage them, no matter how nutty, if only to affect the tepid ones, and sway those who might be swayed to the Truther side. See what I mean?
