Rachael Ray WTF
May 29, 2008
Rachael Ray, annoying but cute & perky, jack of all, master of everything, got her Dunkin’ Donuts ad yanked. She made a fashion faux pas called out by some right-wing bloggers (who IMHO have their panties on way too tight).
My 2 cents, from the little research I have done, and honestly, I can’t waste a second more on this. Someone in fashion gave her a scarf that resembles a keffiyeh — a traditional headdress worn by Arab men. Oopsie. Bloggers called her on it and now a big “brew”haha (pun intended). Geesh – pull the ad – make a new one and call it a day. Is this really news? Come on? Like she is secretly funding or condoning terrorism or something – puh-leeze.
Merri has something to say about this.

With everything else going on right now some bloggers seriously got upset over a scarf? I’m embarrassed this issue is now associated with conservatives. Personally I prefer the “time to make the donuts guy†but it’s unfortunate Dunkin’ Donuts caved in to this nonsense.

I agree 100% Silke. The time to make the donuts guy died.

Ditto what Silke said! Like this matters?! GAWD.
And guess what, Meghan McCain has pics of herself with the same kind of scarf – is she going to be called a terrorist sympathizer now, too? (Probably, considering Malkin’s irrational fear and loathing of John McCain.)
I don’t like the look of that scarf either, regardless of whether it’s “the good guys’ scarf” or the “bad guys’ scarf.” I think it looks stupid, and it reeks of urban hipster cheap trendiness. But to say it makes someone a terrorist sympathizer is just ASININE!

Well, I thought that people went way overboard with it, too, but, you can see how it could offend some people, looking like a kaffiya. Still, they went overboard in their dissection of it. I’ve seen scarves like that for decades, having grown up in NJ, and spent plenty of time in NYC. It’s just a pretty scarf, with a similar pattern. You can see all the strings hanging from it, not a kaffiya.
My mom has one, has had it for a long time. Wasn’t cheap, either. She is not a Palestinian supporter, considering she is Jewish (non-practicing.)
