Staring Down Two Barrels Full Of Trouble
November 2, 2008
Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.
And that, my friends, is the basis of Socialism. Companies have to pay more, so they in turn jack up their prices to pay for it and we end up being the ones who get screwed.

That statement is a lot of things, but the basis of Socialism, it is not.

Actually, it is capitalism… where the costs of manufacturing a product are passed along to the consumer. Socialism is the part where The TurdBurglarâ„¢ and his pack of libtards increase the taxes on some of us and give increased tax credits to the baby factories who aren’t paying taxes to begin with.
Obamaween 2008!
Obamaween is a socialist holiday. Basically, you go out trick or treating and collect candy. Next, you see the government. The government decides how much of your candy you can keep and how much of it should be redistributed to other trick-or-treaters. Some people feel that they should get to keep more of their candy, but this is not patriotic. The government decides who best deserves your candy.

Chris, John McCain supports a cap and trade system too. If this is your basis for fearing an Obama presidency does this mean you also fear a McCain presidency?

Thanks for covering this, Silke. This is exactly what I can’t stand about the “Obama is a socialist” people. They don’t even understand what socialism is. How can you call someone something when you don’t even know what that thing is? Please, stop with the socialism talk, unless you’re also going to complain about Bush’s administration nationalizing our banks. Also, don’t complain about Obama wanting to “spread the wealth”, unless you’re also equally perturbed about Palin “stealing” oil profits to give money to her state’s citizens.
I know you’re not going to vote for Obama, Chris, despite the fact that you’d fair better under his tax, health care, and energy plans, but at least be informed about why you’re not voting for him.

I agree, Reasic. This whole progressive income tax = socialism is absurd. If we want to have a debate about the progressive income tax that’s fine, but in order to have it, we’d have to have a candidate who is actually opposed to progressive taxation.

I believe that Obama wants socialism; I fear something closer to communism, but cap and trade (a bad idea shared by both candidates) is not an indication of it.
We have had a progressive income tax for a long time, and the Bush tax cuts actually made it more progressive, but spreading the wealth around is more than a progressive income tax.
And Reasic I did complain about Bush nationalizing some banks. I opposed the $700 Billion bailout. I wanted to spend $700 million: half building more prisons, and half hiring prosecutors to go after the people that caused the problem.

Sis – sorry. I meant “a result of socialism”, not basis.
Silke – if McCain believes in destroying an entire industry, the loss of thousands of jobs and resulting in Joe Public paying more when we can’t afford it, then yes, I’m afraid of a McCain presidency.
Reasic – Please, stop with the socialism talk, unless you’re also going to complain about Bush’s administration nationalizing our banks. Also, don’t complain about Obama wanting to “spread the wealthâ€, unless you’re also equally perturbed about Palin “stealing†oil profits to give money to her state’s citizens.
I don’t agree with Bush or Palin on those issues. That whole bailout debacle was a huge mistake and taking profits away from companies and giving them to the citizenry is a Socialist idea.

And, Silke, yes, McCain supports the silly cap and trade. But, that is not what Obama wants to do. He wants to bankrupt the coal plants with regulations. It’s change, but sure as hell not hope.

No I was not just going after Democrats, but anyone that caused the mess. Most of the legislators responsible were Dems, and Fannie and Freddie officials bore a major responsibility, but I was going after bankers and mortgage companies that issued the bad loans, financial institutions that tried to hide the bad loans by bundling them into bad financial products, and possibly people that took out a lot of bad loans flipping houses and driving up prices.
And, Silke, yes, McCain supports the silly cap and trade. But, that is not what Obama wants to do. He wants to bankrupt the coal plants with regulations. It’s change, but sure as hell not hope.
But it will generate more unemployed people desperate for government handouts. And the HOPE is that the dems hope they will remain a depresses group of the economy that can’t survive on their own good work, but must depend on welfare.
