Know Thy Enemy

Chris Matthews has become an even bigger ass the Keith Olbermann, if that’s possible.

Chris,
It’d be nice if you’d elaborate sometimes…
You think he was calling our own troops the enemy? Come on… The comment was obviously meant in a political context, as in this venue was potentially Obama’s, or the Democrats’, political enemy camp. This was based on an earlier judgment about his reception at the event, which was lukewarm at best.

I see your point, Reasic, but as a graduate of the United States Military Academy I do take offense at Mathew’s comment – even in a political context. I’m not sure what you mean by the “lukewarm” reception but this was not a moment for celebration. It was a very sober occasion in which the Commander-in-Chief explained the way forward in Afghanistan: a war that is in its eighth year; a war that was consistently and deliberately under-resourced by the previous administration; a place where most of these cadets will likely deploy at some point soon; and a place where some of their former classmates have fought and died. So what you and others may have perceived as a “lukewarm” reception may just have been an understandable response to a very sober occasion.
As for Keith Olberman, I found some of his recent remarks about the military very disturbing – more so than Mathews. He basically stated that while he trusts the President on Afghanistan he does not trust the generals and the Pentagon. I found this incredibly offensive. From day one as a cadet we learned that the civilian leadership in this country is paramount. The last people who want to go to war are soldiers – this includes the generals who fight beside them and sign the condolence letters to the families of fallen soldiers. Yes, the military wants to win when they are given a mission but it has no incentive to indefinitely continue a war.

Silke,
I can understand that. Your perspective makes it more clear why military families might have taken offense to this statement, even though none was intended.

Isn’t nice how when a leftwing idealogue says something stupid like this everyone just “misunderstood” the context and no offense was intended. Quit making excuses for this fool.
I am with 100% on this one Silke.

SSG, you think Chris Matthews is a leftwing ideologue? You should check out some liberal blogs sometimes. They’d no sooner take him than you would.
