Milblogging Conference – My Impressions

Date April 24, 2006

I had a great time at the Milblogging Conference and would have had an even better time if it weren’t for this darn cold I have. Poor Greta, she had to put up with all my coughing and sniffling the entire weekend. We couldn’t make it to any of the really important events (the drinking ones) because of me – sorry, Greta!

My absolute favorite part of the conference was just meeting people and putting a face with a blog. It was like meeting celebrities. The cool part was they considered me one of “them.” I’m so glad I got to meet Crazy Politico – he’s smart and funny and I respect his opinion. I liked talking to Chris from Two Babes and a Brain. I was especially touched by Some Soldiers Mom, when she spoke about her son being wounded. It was the contacts she had established from her blogging that helped her get through those first few terrifying hours. Those of us who have had a loved one deployed know all too well what it’s like to live in constant fear of a late-night phone call or (even worse) a visit from a chaplain in uniform.

This conference reaffirmed my love for the military community. What I discovered from this conference was that this community (by way of the internet) is much larger than I ever imagined!

Hooah!

Ditto what Silke said. Don’t feel bad at all Silke. You did so much for me and it was wonderful seeing you in person after a few years. Amazing how we have connected for life. I apologize for being “map challenged” it is in my blood!

Hey, I didn’t get to hear the “map challenged story”, someone e-mail it to me :)

Silke it was great meeting you and Greta also, definitely enjoyed lunch with you ladies, and hope to get together with you again some time.

Well, you’re a few steps ahead of me. I don’t have a recap up yet. I’m still buried under email. :P I cannot remember the last time I was without email for four days straight. Remind me not to do that again! This afternoon, about half-way through, I just walked away and went to watch a Tivo’d episode of American Idol! :)

I just wanted to pop in and say it was great to meet you and Greta. I wish I’d gotten to talk with you more, and I didn’t get to spend time with nearly as many people as I wanted to!

All in all, it was a fantastic weekend, though! Huge kudos to Andi!
